History
Prof. El-Sayed Abd-Elsalam El-Akkary (Godfather of Pediatric Surgery in Alexandria)
Born in Rosetta in 28 June 1921, graduated in Alexandria Medical School (MBBCh) in 1945 & got his MSc in 1952, he started his training in England GOSH, Scotland & Germany. He visited USA, France & Italy. He is a BAPS member since 1964 & a Professor since 1967. He founded the Alexandria Pediatric Surgery Service in 1958. He founded El-Shatby Pediatric Surgery Unit with the help of Prof. Rehbein and the Volkswagen Stiftung fund in 1973. He founded the EAPS with his colleagues Prof. Adel Lotfi, Prof. Fawzy Bahnasy and Prof. Aziz Abd-Elaleem in 1982. He also founded the Innocent Childhood Benevolent Association (ICBA) in 1974. He signed the DAAD and Kaiserin Friedrich scholarships agreement for mutual exchange of trainees in 1981. He supervised MSc & PhD thesis and forwarded scientific research. He headed of the Pediatric Surgery Unit in Alexandria from 1958 till 1981 & head of the Department of Surgery from 1978 till 1981. He was an Emeritus Professor from 1981 till 1986 when he died after a short illness (May God bless his Soul).
